Kimchi Restaurant @Suntec City

Tired and hungry on a Sunday evening, this place's not one of our must-go list, but having sampled their food by authentic Korean chefs (who looked very much like K-pop stars on their own) at the Korean Food Fair 2014, an event held by the Korean Government held at Ngee Ann City Orchard, plus there is no queue, we thought, hey, why not?

The left of the entrance is actually like a mini-mart that sells vegetables and Korean snacks. Very interesting, but definirely not cheap. The seating area is big, with quite a few tables catered for BBQ. As we wanted to just eat and go, we quickly wrote down our orders and passed the slip to the waiter.

We waited for quite awhile for the food to arrive. I noticed this on the other table as well. Nonetheless, we tucked into our foods wholeheartedly. We ordered:

 Seafood Pancake

Beef Dolsot Bap

Pork Dolsot Bap

Kimchi Ramen

Overall, the rice portion looks really small, but we learnt to finish the food before we judge. There's alot of meat, hence that amount of rice is actually more than enough. After the bowlful of egg and cabbage soup, it's really filling!

The Beef Dolsot Bap is probably the most fragrant among all the three variants we tried. The Pork Dolsot Bap is too spicy, which led to the poor waiter keep coming over to refill my cup of water, and I couldn't enjoy the pork's taste. I hate situations like this, because I end up having to eat just so that I do not waste. Surprisingly, the Andong Chicken Dolsot Bap, which is one more level spicier than the Pork, seemed to be milder. Oh well, I am not one who can take spicy food well, so maybe I shouldn't have been so adventurous...

Kimchi Ramen... is just Kimchi Ramen. No meat at all. Very plain, not much ingredients. The soup tasted very much like packet instant noodles-like. The noodles are nice though, very chewy and thick. I wouldn't recommend ordering this dish though.

The Seafood Pancake came last. It was enough to feed 3-4 pax, like a piece and a half for each person. It's quite tasty as well. For it's price, it's worth an order.

There's quite a few other intersting dishes that you can try ordering, such as the Black Sesame Chicken Soup, Wagyu Short Rib, or even BBQ-ing premium beef.

Last but not least, go grab a cup of Korean cream coffee at the cashier! Just press the button and the cups drops down from the machine. It's free, so grab a cup before you go. In all, I'd come back to this place if there're no other choices.

Tip: Return your wet tissues at the cashier. Else, you're gonna be charged $0.50++ for each piece. I am never a fan of paying extra for tissues and water.

Tony Roma's- Place for Ribs

Tony Romas has always been one of my favorite places for ribs in Singapore. Our first meal was at Orchard Hotel, but now that outlet has shifted to Orchard Central, which is bigger, but well, losing that rustic feel.

The outlet I am at today is Suntec City's, which is supposedly their second outlet. This outlet's decor is much more sophisticated, which can easily be mistaken as a place for fine-dining with all that dim lights and dark-colored decor. But the prices are actually quite friendly for ribs!

Food & Service

Both food and service have always been prompt and friendly. Their Half Onion Loaf ($9.90) is one of their classic starters! Plus, I love their free baguette with butter while waiting for the dishes to arrive. There are a variety of sauces and side dishes to choose from, and Carolina Honey is one of the classic faves. (Psst, you can ask for more sauce!)

Half Onion Loaf ($9.90)

Full Carolina Honeys Ribs ($36.90)

Full Carolina Honeys Ribs ($36.90)

If my friends ask for a ribs place, Tony Romas is on my list :)
